Scrap Paper

Scrap paper is a generic term used to describe a mixture of high and low grade waste paper types. Common paper items found in scrap paper include: office paper, newspaper, corrugated cardboard, magazines, box board, envelopes, junk mail, phone books, and packaging paper. This category can include: a wide variety of types and colors of paper; a mix of mechanically or chemically pulped paper; coated and uncoated paper stock; and bleached and kraft paper.

Semi Bleached Cutting (Grade #35)

Consists of sheets and cuttings of unprinted, untreated, groundwood free paper such as file folder stock, manila tabulating card trim, untreated milk carton stock, or manila tag.

Sorted Graphic Paper for Deinking (European Grade)

Sorted graphic paper from households, newspapers and magazines, each at a minimum of 40%. The percentage of nondeinkable paper and board should be reduced over time to a maximum level of 1.5%. The actual percentage is to be negotiated between buyer and seller.

Waxed Box Board

Waxed Box Board shall consist of multi-layered paper board including folding cartons made of typical gray shoe box material that has been laminated or coated with wax (paraffin wax), may include printed or Snow Coat boxes or box trimmings. Waxed Corrugated

Waxed Corrugated shall consist of clean sorted printed or unprinted corrugated cardboard cartons, boxes or sheet that has been coated with wax (paraffin wax), must be Kraft or jute liner content. May contain staples or poly tape, must be free of asphalt tapes and asphalt lined materials, may not contain more than 5% fiber re-enforced tapes.

Waxed Cup Stock

New and Revised Grade #, Title and Description as per revised EN 643 (European Waste Paper Grades 2013)

A major change in the new EN643 is the introduction of maximum tolerance levels of non-paper components (maximum of 1.5% for the majority of grades) and for unwanted materials.

Specialty Grades (as per US Scrap Specification Circular 2013)

The grades listed below are produced and traded in carload and truckload quantities throughout the United States, and because of certain characteristics (i.e., the presence of wet strength, polycoatings, plastic, foil, carbon paper, hot melt glue), are not included in the regular grades of paper stock. However, it is recognized that many mills have special equipment and are able to utilize large quantities of these grades. Since many paper mills around the world do use these specialty grades, they are being listed with appropriate grade numbers for easy reference. The Paper Stock Industries Chapter of ISRI is not establishing specific specifications, which would refer to such factors as the type of wet strength agent used, the percentage of wax, the amount of polycoating, whether it is on top of or under the printing, etc. The specification for each grade should be determined between Buyer and Seller, and it is recommended that purchase be made based on sample.
